Site Preparation

Every building stands on somebody's dirt work. Ours is stripped, cut, filled and compacted to plan - so the foundation crew starts on schedule, not on excuses.

What site prep includes

  • Clearing and grubbing - vegetation, stumps and roots out of the building envelope
  • Topsoil stripped and stockpiled for reuse on final grade
  • Cut and fill to design elevations, in compacted lifts - not one big dump
  • Building pads proof-rolled and ready for footings
  • Erosion control - silt fence and entrances that keep inspectors happy
  • Access roads and staging areas so the trades after us can actually work

Working to plan, coordinating with everyone

We work from your site plan and grading sheet, shoot grades with laser and GPS, and coordinate directly with your builder, septic designer and inspector. When we hand off a pad, the elevations match the drawing - and we're reachable when the foundation crew has a question.

No plans yet? For garages, shops and outbuildings we can establish grades and drainage on site with you, and document what we set.

Common questions

When should excavation get involved?

Before final plans if possible - a half-hour site walk can move a building fifteen feet and save thousands in fill or drainage headaches.

What about rock or bad soil?

We'll tell you what we're finding immediately, with options and prices - not a surprise invoice. Test holes up front are cheap insurance on questionable ground.

Do you handle permits?

Grading and driveway permits vary by jurisdiction; we know the local requirements and handle or guide the paperwork as needed.

Good buildings start with good dirt work.
