Grading and Drainage

Water always wins - the only question is whether you decided where it goes. We shape ground so it drains by design.

Problems we fix

  • Water against the foundation and wet basements
  • Yards that swamp every spring
  • Driveways that wash out or puddle
  • Neighbor runoff crossing your land
  • Erosion cutting channels through slopes
  • Low spots that never dry

How we fix them

Positive grade away from structures, swales that carry water along routes you chose, french drains where surface solutions can't reach, and culverts sized for the storm, not the average day. Every fix starts with watching where water actually goes - we grade for the real flow.

Finish grading comes with topsoil respread and a surface ready for seed - fixing the drainage shouldn't mean living in a dirt patch.

Common questions

Can you fix drainage without redoing the whole yard?

Usually - a targeted swale or drain line solves most problems. We quote the minimum fix that actually works, with the full fix as an option.

What slope should ground have near a house?

Rule of thumb is six inches of fall in the first ten feet. Most wet basements we see fail exactly that test.

When is the best season for grading?

Dry ground works best, but drainage problems show themselves in the wet - we diagnose wet, schedule dry.

Decide where the water goes - once.
